Our Mission is to positively impact maternal health outcomes for Women of Color within the District of Columbia.
Areas of Funding Focus
Founded by the legacy organization, the Developing Families Center, the Developing Families Maternal Health Fund is a movement to accelerate maternal health for women of color in the District of Columbia. The Fund is administered by the Greater Washington Community Foundation, who manages the investment strategy portfolio and the grantmaking process. The purpose of the Fund is to memorialize the Developing Families Center’s legacy mission to positively impact the persistent negative outcomes associated with perinatal services; birthing outcomes; and maternal and infant health outcomes affecting Black and Brown women in DC Wards 5, 7 and 8.
The fund is governed by a five-member Leadership Council in partnership with the Greater Washington Community Foundation. Together, The Community Foundation and Leadership Council are ensuring the Developing Families Maternal Health Fund is managed according to guidelines outlined in the fund agreement. The committee’s role includes developing the grantmaking strategy, approving a slate of proposed grant recipients, monitoring the fund's investments, ensuring compliance with governing policies, and reviewing all program evaluation reports.
